10 Things You Should
"Never" Eat
By: Dr. Jennifer T. Murphy, Chiropractic
Physician
I hate to be the "bearer of bad
news", but it is the time of year for resolutions to be made.
Every January 1 folks sit down and decide what changes or modifications
they need to make in their lives to become better/healthier people.
Almost everyone has on their list "I want to lose weight"
or "I want to exercise more regularly". We resolutely
begin with our "to do list", but by mid-January to February
most are long forgotten and we fall back into our regular life patterns.
It was while I was gathering information to assist with my resolutions-as
listed above-that I ran across Ted Broer, a nutritionalist and exercise
physiologist. What I found out changed both my outlook on food and
the outlook of those around me with whom I shared the information.
Mr. Broer pointed out the "Top Ten Things You Should Never
Eat" to maintain what he calls "Optimum Energy".
This list will shock and amaze you. I will list them in order, but
for those who are light-hearted, I would not read beyond this point.

8 Myths About Chiropractors
By: Dr. Jennifer T. Murphy
The mainstream media, sponsored by pharmaceutical
companies, is very quick to berate the chiropractic profession and
do little to promote the vast benefits we offer.
They have campaigned for years to prevent
us from practicing, but luckily, the public has spoken. I am proud
to be a choir/quacker/bone cracker
chiropractor and here's
why.

10 Most Common Pediatric
Conditions-
Part One of Ten: Hip and Elbow Conditions
By: Dr. Jennifer T. Murphy, Chiropractic Physician
This is the first installment in a series
of articles dealing with pediatric conditions. I want to state right
off the bat that these conditions are somewhat difficult to describe
without using some good illustrations-words alone don't quite get
the job done. However, if you have questions, you can always call
the clinic or email me and I will respond as quickly as I can. You
can also research these conditions on the internet. Let's start
with the elbow:

Children Need Chiropractic
Care
By: Dr. Jennifer T. Murphy
My name is Jennifer T. Murphy and I am a
chiropractic-physician who specializes in pediatric chiropractic
care. I graduated from Palmer College of Chiropractic in 1995 with
my doctorate and opened up a clinic in Pink Hill, NC in 1996. After
obtaining my one-year certification in pediatrics, I decided to
pursue a three-year Diplomate in Chiropractic Pediatric care from
the International Council on Chiropractic Pediatrics sponsored through
Palmer College. I graduated with my diplomate degree in 2002 and
I am now one of two pediatric diplomats in North Carolina and one
of one hundred and two in the nation.

Chiropractic and Children
By: Dr. Jennifer T. Murphy, Chiropractic Physician
Babies often endure some trauma during
the birth process. Fitting their 14cm head through a 10cm opening
and being pulled on the other side by an obstetrician can often
cause unseen problems. Adults put through this kind of strain would
probably be in traction, asking for unlimited amounts of morphine!
With that in mind, I am often amazed when patients look surprised
when I tell them that babies need chiropractic care too. Birthing
trauma can cause misshaping of the skull, twisting of the bones
in the neck, and unleveling of the pelvic bones. These problems
can lead to colic, ear infection, uncontrollable crying, respiratory
problems, lack of balance, slow development of motor function (reaching
out, grasping objects, etc.), and in extreme cases, retardation
and neurological disorders.

"Artificial"
and "Preservative": Words of the Sick
By: Dr. Jennifer T. Murphy, D.C., D.I.C.C.P.
Last month I covered the tough story
of nutrition with regard to cancer. In that article I promised a
more detailed account of the artificial colors and nutrients we
add to our food and the preservatives used to keep food beyond its
normal lifetime. Most of us have no idea what these products are
or how they came in to being. The most important thing that I have
learned is that the introduction of these products into our diet
directly correlates with increases in degenerative diseases such
as cancer, diabetes, heart disease, lupus-and the list goes on.

An Arthritis Primer
By: Dr. Jennifer T. Murphy, Chiropractic Physician
Arthritis is defined in Taber's Medical
Dictionary as "inflammation of a joint, usually accompanied
by pain, swelling, and frequently, changes in structure". This
definition has become so blurred by both physicians and patients
that everything that hurts is arthritis. I'm going to attempt to
clarify some misconceptions about arthritis, what it looks like,
how to identify it and treatments available. First, let's identify
the most common types of arthritis.
